singapore airlines used to be my favorite way to fly. Now i am not so sure. They have forgotten that the passengers are more important than the planes.
It was not just one thing. I find that the level of service is dropping steadily. They are working the crews too hard. It shows in the service, and I feel bad for them. Waiting in line at Changi is common now, since they have cut the number of check-in staff. The machines to automate checkin are useless since you still have to stand in line for document checks and luggage checkin. I expect that kind of service when I check in on economy, but definitely the other airlines don't make me do this when I travel business or first class. They have also cut the benefits from the PPS program significantly. When I complained they did not really answer my complaint at all. The response was a simply 'we are very sorry' with no indication that they would do anything to fix the problem that I raised. Finally, the lounges. The Raffles Class lounge in Singapore is going downhill fast. They have revoked the privileges to use the first class lounge from their PPS program members. This was a standard thing that they did for years, and now they claim that it is due to 'overcrowding' in the lounge. The first class lounge was never crowed, but the business class one definitely IS. Then the lounge amenities are slowly disappearing and the staff in the lounge is rude or absent. That is not what I have grown used to from SIA in the past, and definitely not up to the standards of their competitors IMO.
